Phenomena
On this page the Kyborg Institute collects unusual photographic appearances – orbs (Devas), reflections of light and striking pyramid shapes in clouds and mountains, often at special places and around the energy pyramids. We show them as a personal, worldview-based interpretation – not as proof. Some are demonstrably technical effects of digital cameras (reflections, dust, blur), others we experience as puzzling. Every reader may decide for themselves how to classify them.
Our attitude: to show, not to claim
D. Harald Alke has engaged with mysticism, spirituality, alchemy and magic since his youth. Many of the effects shown here have in common that you do not see them in the camera’s viewfinder – they appear only in the finished picture. In many cases this points to technical causes. At the same time, some of these appearances occur strikingly often at special places. From our point of view we interpret this as a possible interplay of perception, place and technology – but we claim no scientific proof for it and do not wish to “mystify” anything.
Energy, aura and perception
The author Dr Kiontke holds the thesis that living beings radiate more heat than they take in through food, and that part of the energy comes from environmental radiation. Whether this thesis is correct is open – we render it as a suggestion, not as an established fact. From a yogic point of view we additionally breathe in prana (a concept science does not know).
In a simple pendulum experiment we measured a larger “aura” in people who practise regularly than in others. This is a subjective experiment, not a proof, and says nothing about a person’s health or illness. We experience the energy pyramids as helpful for coming to rest and meditating – that is an experience, not a promise of effect.
A thought to close this section: rather than stoking fear of radiation (mobile phones, appliances), we rely on trust in our own adaptability. Anyone who meets life openly lives, in our experience, more calmly.
Pyramid shapes in the sky
My friend Gabriel, a French Qi Gong master, held an earth ceremony with his students on a mountain in the South of France (near the Cathar castle of Peyrepertuse) and took a small Energy Pyramid A with him. Shortly afterwards this photo was taken – in the sky, marked in yellow, two cloud shapes reminiscent of pyramids stand out.

Chiasma and Irminsul in Burgundy
On 10 October 2008 a small Irminsul was erected in the park of Château Beaumont (Burgundy). In the evening, a hazy appearance (“chiasma”) and a bright spot of light (orb) showed on a photo; the sky was starry-clear. Some interpret such appearances as “visitors” – we render that as an interpretation, with no claim to proof.

Crystal wonder: the cave of Naica
In the cave of Naica (Chihuahua, Mexico) huge gypsum crystals have grown over millennia. They show the dimensions in which crystals can form in nature.

Spheres of light: orbs and Devas
Again and again we receive photos with round spots of light, which in esotericism are called orbs or Devas. Bernhard Jakel sent us pictures from the Palatinate Forest (2007). Whether these are dust, reflections or “something else”, we leave open.

Another photo was sent to us by a friend from an old cemetery in southern Ireland. Some wonder whether such spots of light at special places are more than reflections – a question we deliberately leave open.
Pyramid-shaped mountains
Some mountain peaks look astonishingly pyramid-shaped – a play of geology that stirs the imagination.

Exotic phenomena in the sky
On a photo of the moon, a photographer noticed, besides the colouring of the clouds, a small object that she at first took for a satellite. On three photos taken in quick succession it appears to consist of several parts and to change its position. We show the pictures as a curiosity, without explanation.
Light appearances at the energy pyramids
Around the energy pyramids, photos with striking reflections of light arise again and again – mostly backlight effects that were not visible in the viewfinder.
A cheerful snapshot: the sun as a “halo”.
The “face on Mars” – a well-known example of how our brain recognises patterns and faces everywhere (pareidolia). It is precisely this openness to patterns that makes looking at such pictures appealing.
Light appearances during Energytraining
Even during Energytraining and at old, mystical places (such as Cathar castles), such spots of light have appeared on photos over the years – likewise during a visit to a palace in Silesia (2007). We understand them as part of our world of experience, without explaining them.
Frequently asked questions
What are “orbs” or “Devas”? This is what esotericism calls round spots of light that appear on digital photos. Photographically they can usually be explained by dust, pollen, moisture or reflections in front of the lens. Some people interpret them spiritually – the Kyborg Institute shows them as a subjective interpretation, with no claim to proof.
Do these photos prove supernatural forces? No. We claim no scientific proof. Much can be explained technically; what goes beyond that remains personal interpretation.
What do the phenomena have to do with the energy pyramids? Many photos were taken at special places and around the energy pyramids. We do not claim a causal connection – the energy pyramids are objects of art and experience.
