The Weather-Maker (1976)
Autor: D. Harald Alke
A standpoint, not a lexicon entry. A personal anecdote by D. Harald Alke. Background knowledge: the lexicon entry Kundalini; a related view: the standpoint The magic of the weather.
Let me tell you a story. In January 1976 I began my training with students of Yogi Bhajan in Hamburg. In August of the same year I was confronted for the first time with the fact that Kundalini Yoga is apparently more than merely individual training.
My Hamburg teachers travelled to London in order to “pray for rain” there. All of Europe was suffering at the time under a searing drought, and for the first time there was talk that perhaps a shift in the climate was playing a part. A few days later I found two newspaper articles on it – and it became clear to me that my new teachers were not merely telling stories.
Yogi Bhajan had announced that it would rain about four days after the convention. Counting from the report on 27 August, it was exactly the days announced – the rain even came already on the second and third day.
In the following years I witnessed such weather effects regularly at the Tantra festivals under Yogi Bhajan’s direction: whenever we trained intensively, the weather turned in parallel – after rain the sun soon shone, after sunshine a thunderstorm gathered. My own students later came to know this too.
It is very impressive to witness how, through the intensive spiritual training of a group, the weather turns – in defiance of all forecasts. Here Kundalini Yoga and shamanism, nature and magic flow into one another. We need only open our eyes to what is unfolding before us, and then we recognise wonderful connections.
The power of the old masters – storm gods and “kamikaze”: the divine wind.
