Sterilisation

Sterilisation is a permanent method of contraception: in the woman by interrupting the fallopian tubes, in the man by the vasectomy (severing of the vas deferens). It is considered final and is a personal decision that belongs to be thoroughly medically advised. At the Kyborg Institute we classify the theme neutrally – expressly without a medical recommendation.

Our view

Whether, when and how someone permanently prevents conception is a personal life decision – best made together with a partner and medically accompanied. Both ways (in woman and man) are established procedures with their own advantages and disadvantages, about which the doctor gives information. Other, non-permanent methods are treated in the entry contraception & conception regulation.

What does that mean in practice?

• Before a sterilisation, have yourself advised extensively by a doctor (finality, procedure, alternatives).
• Make the decision calmly and, as far as possible, together.
• Do not choose any permanent method under pressure or prematurely.
