Rickets
Rickets is an illness of the growing child’s bone that arises through a lack of vitamin D (and calcium) – the bone does not mineralise properly and stays soft. It is well treatable (above all with vitamin D) and belongs in paediatric treatment. Thanks to the vitamin D prophylaxis for infants now customary in many countries, rickets has become rare.
Our supplementary view
At the Kyborg Institute we additionally consider the soul-related side – expressly as a personal, worldview-based supplement: besides good physical provision, children also need attention, security and safety to thrive well. That is a sensitive suggestion and no substitute for the medical treatment – the absent vitamin D provision is and remains the actual cause.
What does that mean in practice?
- Have a suspicion of rickets clarified by a paediatrician and treated (vitamin D provision).
- Take the recommended vitamin D prophylaxis in infancy seriously.
- Give children much attention and security in addition.
Note: This article renders a personal, worldview-based view and is not medical advice. It replaces no medical diagnosis or treatment. For health questions please turn to a doctor or pharmacy; do not discontinue prescribed medication on your own initiative.
