Our reading
In our reading, a hernia stands for too much pressure and mental overload – and for a lack of inner hold. With an umbilical hernia we sometimes see the theme of the connection to the mother, in general the field of tension between “wanting to be free” and “fear of being abandoned”. As with a weakness of connective tissue, we read it as an invitation to believe in oneself again and to “pull oneself together” – actively, but without being overwhelmed.
