Miscarriages
A miscarriage is the premature end of a pregnancy. It is frequent – about every fourth known pregnancy – and mostly not influenceable: often there are causes that no one is at fault for (for example chromosomal particularities of the embryo). Important: A miscarriage is, as a rule, not the woman’s fault. Feelings of guilt are understandable – but unfounded. You do not have to carry this alone.
A gentle, consoling view
Out of our spiritual tradition, the thought of rebirth can console: the idea that a soul can show itself again later, under other circumstances – that a pregnancy that ends early was not “in vain”. We offer this expressly as consolation, not as an assertion of fact and never as an explanation in the sense of “it was meant to be, because …”. Whoever finds no consolation in such images, from them we take nothing.
What does that mean in practice?
- After a miscarriage, have yourself medically accompanied; with complaints, seek medical advice.
- Allow grief – and, if it does good, accept soul-related support (counselling centres, therapy, trusted people).
- Free yourself from feelings of guilt: a miscarriage is no personal failure.
