Contraception & conception regulation
Contraception and conception regulation denote the conscious steering of whether a pregnancy comes about. This entry gives an overview of common means of contraception and additionally describes the personal, worldview-based view of the Kyborg Lexicon on the theme.
What is it about?
There are today many reliable ways to prevent a pregnancy or to bring one about consciously. Which method suits a couple depends on life situation, health and preferences. Safety and tolerability are best clarified in a medical consultation – we understand the following remarks as a contribution to discussion, not as a recommendation against contraception.
Which means of contraception are there?
- Temperature and cycle methods can give hints of the fertile days. They are demanding in application, less safe than other methods, and presuppose much experience and consistency. Whoever relies on them alone should know the residual risk.
- Spermicides (e.g. foaming tablets) work only with limited safety and are mostly combined with a barrier method.
- Condoms are among the practical methods and additionally protect against sexually transmitted infections – especially in new or changing relationships an important point.
- The coil (IUD) is considered a very safe long-term method. From our own, spiritually oriented view, we are rather reserved towards a foreign body in the body; that is a subjective stance, no medical evaluation. Possible side effects and the suitability in the individual case are clarified by the medical consultation.
- Hormonal contraception (the pill) is, for many couples in a steady relationship, an established and well controllable solution. Like every hormone preparation, it has advantages and disadvantages that are to be weighed up individually with a doctor. From our view, the inner attitude and the life situation play a role in the personal tolerability too.
- A “male pill” is so far not a widely available means. We see it – that is expressly a personal, energetically grounded opinion – sceptically; we make no medical statement on it.
How do we see it spiritually?
The Kyborg Lexicon holds the worldview-based view that the inner attitude of a person may co-shape the events around conception, and that sexuality is more than a physical process. In our counselling practice, we were told of experiences in which people had the impression of experiencing a pregnancy very consciously – such as the feeling of perceiving an “incarnation” or of sensing the right moment for a wished-for child.
Such accounts are personal reports of experience and subjective readings – no scientific proof and no instruction. The idea that a woman becomes “pregnant only if she wants to”, and therefore needs no means of contraception, is an unproven worldview-based claim. Whoever wants to reliably avoid a pregnancy should not rely on inner attitude or intuition alone.
What does that mean in practice?
- Whoever wants to prevent conception reliably chooses a safe, medically accompanied method and gets advice on effectiveness and tolerability.
- Protection against sexually transmitted infections is offered above all by condoms – especially in new relationships.
- Inner attitude, relationship and life situation may be part of one’s own considerations – but they replace no effective contraception.
- With uncertainty, a wish for children or questions about the suitable method, the gynaecologist is the right place to turn to.
Note: This article renders a personal, worldview-based view and is not medical advice. It replaces no medical diagnosis or treatment. For health questions please turn to a doctor or pharmacy; do not discontinue prescribed medication on your own initiative.
