Appendix
The vermiform appendix of the caecum can become inflamed – an appendicitis can become life-threatening, which is why persistent, increasing abdominal pain (often in the lower right belly) with nausea and fever needs to be assessed by a doctor or in the emergency department at once. At the Kyborg Institute we additionally read the theme on a symbolic level.
Our reading: an acute crisis
In our reading, such an inflammation is like an acute crisis from which a person can emerge changed – an inner image for a turning point.
A curious side note
In evolutionary history, a corresponding section of the intestine was a storage organ in some animals – a biological anecdote.
